Nigerian Military Court Martial Inaugurated for Coup Plot

The Nigerian Military has inaugurated a court martial to address the case of 36 personnel accused of involvement in an alleged coup plot aimed at overthrowing the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The court martial was officially inaugurated on Friday at the Scorpion Mess within the Defence Headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja.

The session was conducted under heavy security and was held behind closed doors, reflecting the sensitive nature of the proceedings. Journalists, including accredited defence correspondents, were denied access to the venue, and security personnel prohibited the use of mobile phones.

The 36 defendants were transported to the military headquarters garrison at approximately 8:53 AM. This military court martial is unfolding alongside parallel criminal charges filed by the federal government against civilians implicated in the alleged coup plot, which are being addressed in the Federal High Court in Abuja.
