Military Court-Martial Inaugurated for 36 Coup Suspects

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the inauguration of a general court-martial to try 36 military personnel accused of mutiny and breaching national security. This statement was released on Friday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Information, Maj Gen Samaila Uba.

The court-martial aims to address allegations of an attempted coup against the government. Maj Gen Uba emphasized that the proceedings will be conducted with the highest standards of fairness, impartiality, and strict adherence to due process, ensuring justice is served without fear or favor.

The trial is set to take place at the Brigad Scorpion Mess in Asokoro, starting at 8:53 AM under tight security arrangements. However, journalists were denied access to the courtroom as the trial proceedings are being held behind closed doors.

Several civil lawyers were present at the premises ahead of the trial.
