Nigerian Military Neutralizes 662 Terrorists in Three Months

Between April and June 2026, the Nigerian Armed Forces successfully neutralized 662 terrorists and rescued 951 victims during intensified operations against terrorism and banditry. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, reported these achievements during a monthly operational briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The operations, which included land and air intelligence-driven efforts, targeted groups such as Boko Haram, ISWAP, and other criminal elements. The North East region recorded the highest success, with 484 terrorists neutralized and 595 kidnap victims rescued.

A significant breakthrough occurred on June 6, when troops conducted multi-axial operations in the Mandara Mountain area of Borno State, rescuing 360 civilians, mostly women and children. The operations also led to the arrest of 1,084 suspects and the disruption of insurgent support networks across various states, including Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Zamfara.

Chief Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede commended the troops for their professionalism and urged citizens to provide credible intelligence to security agencies.
