Nigerian Military Discovers ISWAP Drone Warfare Tactics

The Nigerian military has revealed a disturbing shift in tactics by the insurgent groups ISWAP and Boko Haram, who are increasingly deploying commercially available drones for aerial attacks. Intelligence sources disclosed that these groups have converted drones originally designed for photography and filmmaking into improvised aerial weapons.

Following a successful counter-terror operation in Borno State on Tuesday, where Nigerian troops eliminated two top ISWAP commanders and 84 terrorist fighters, the military recovered a trove of intelligence materials. These included mobile phones undergoing forensic analysis and handwritten diaries containing operational maps and strike plans.

The recovered materials provide compelling evidence linking specific sponsors to the insurgents' evolving drone warfare strategies. In response to this emerging threat, the Nigerian military is enhancing its intelligence gathering and deploying electronic warfare systems, including frequency jamming technology to disrupt drone operations.

Troops are also undergoing specialized training to detect and neutralize hostile drones effectively.
