Nigerian Military Uncovers Drone Tactics of Terrorists

The Nigerian military has revealed a significant shift in tactics among terrorist groups in the North-East, particularly ISWAP and Boko Haram factions, who are increasingly deploying weaponized commercial drones for aerial attacks. Intelligence sources indicate that these groups have modified commercially available drones, originally designed for photography and filmmaking, to develop improvised aerial weapons.

This development follows a major counter-terrorism operation on Tuesday in Malam Fatori, Borno State, where Nigerian troops eliminated two top ISWAP commanders and 84 terrorist fighters. The operation also recovered a trove of intelligence materials, including mobile phones and handwritten diaries containing operational maps and strike plans.

The military is currently analyzing this data to establish links to specific external sponsors and technical advisors involved in the evolution of drone warfare strategies. To counter this emerging threat, the Nigerian military is enhancing its counter-drone capabilities and deploying electronic warfare systems to detect and neutralize hostile aerial devices.
