Shehu Sani Demands Justice for Miners' Deaths in Niger

Shehu Sani recounted his experiences in a congested cell, likening it to "hell on earth," following the deaths of miners, including teenagers, who were arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on September 15 and 16 over allegations of illegal mining. The now suspended state commandant of the NSCDC, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, stated that the miners died due to a suspected disease outbreak in the facility.

Sani, a civil rights activist and former senator, shared his harrowing memories of detention, emphasizing the severe conditions detainees endure in cramped cells, where fresh air is a rare privilege. He expressed empathy for the deceased miners and demanded that those responsible for their deaths face justice, asserting that those involved, whether directly or indirectly, must be held accountable under the law.
