Minister Advocates Gender-Inclusive Military Leadership

During a lecture titled "Gender Dimensions of Leadership in the Armed Forces," Minister Sulaiman Ibrahim urged senior military officers to adopt inclusive leadership models to strengthen Nigeria's military operations. She highlighted that gender inclusivity should be a strategic priority in governance and military policy, rather than merely a social intervention.

Ibrahim referenced contemporary security challenges that necessitate adaptive and collaborative leadership approaches, which often undervalue qualities associated with women. She pointed out Nigeria's low representation of women in political and military leadership as indicative of broader structural inequities.

The Minister called for reforms to improve recruitment, retention, and career progression for women in the armed forces, stressing the importance of implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security. Ibrahim concluded by emphasizing the need for military leaders to mentor women officers and create inclusive command structures to maximize talent across gender lines.
