Sulaiman-Ibrahim Expands Influence through Grassroots Governance

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim serves as Nigeria's Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, focusing on expanding her influence through grassroots governance. Since assuming office in October 2024, she has developed a broad intervention framework targeting women, children, and vulnerable populations across Nigeria.

Her approach is characterized by connecting the government with ordinary citizens and building political trust through social protection programs. Sulaiman-Ibrahim has empowered approximately 4 to 6 million women and families with cash support, farm equipment, and livelihood interventions distributed across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

She has also intensified actions against gender-based violence and coordinated Nigeria's participation in the 69th and 70th sessions of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. Her leadership style combines technocratic skills with grassroots engagement, making her a significant connector within the Tinubu administration, which recognizes the political reality of women's underutilization in governance.
