Federal Government Urges Action on Women's Empowerment

The Federal Government has called on the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to move beyond mere policy declarations and implement the resolutions from the National Council on Women Affairs, Child Advancement and Social Development. This directive was issued by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, FSI, during the opening of the 26th National Council in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The theme of the council was “Strengthening Families and Advancing the Care Economy for Inclusive Development: Operationalising Nigeria’s Renewed Social Protection Architecture.” Hajiya Imaan stressed that the council should serve as a delivery platform rather than a ceremonial gathering, focusing on accountability for implementation. She highlighted the significance of the family in societal development and announced that the Federal Ministry had developed 38 new policy instruments, totaling 42, addressing critical areas such as childcare, gender equality, and women's economic empowerment.

The declaration of 2026 as the Year of Families and Social Development by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu underscores the government's commitment to these issues.
