Nigeria's Women Empowerment Initiatives Highlighted at UN

At the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, Nigeria's Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, highlighted the federal government's commitment to women's empowerment. She outlined various programs aimed at improving the welfare of citizens, particularly women and children.

Ibrahim represented Nigeria at the meeting, aligning with the African group statement to reaffirm the country's dedication to advancing gender equality and women's empowerment. She emphasized that empowering women is critical for national stability and prosperity, reflecting President Bola Tinubu's "Renew Hope" agenda, which declares 2026 as the year for family social development.

The initiatives include significant investments in women's empowerment, with a focus on livelihood support, access to clean energy, and financial inclusion. Ibrahim also discussed the importance of addressing gender-based violence and the need for a robust legal framework to protect women's rights, including policies that recognize unpaid care work and expand access to women-owned businesses.
