Minister Ojo Calls for Focus Amid Political Climate

During a performance review retreat in Abuja, Minister of Interior Tunji Ojo emphasized the importance of agencies under his ministry maintaining focus on their mandates amid the heightened political climate as Nigeria approaches the 2026 elections. He warned against complacency and urged agencies to prioritize effective service delivery, noting that Nigerians expect results.

Ojo highlighted the need for the Nigeria Immigration Service to strengthen border control and curb irregular migration, equipping officers with necessary tools for security. He also called for improvements in the Federal Fire Service's emergency response operations and urged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to enhance protection of national assets.

Additionally, Ojo stressed the importance of rehabilitating inmates to reduce recidivism rates, advocating for a transformation of correctional facilities to better reintegrate individuals into society. His remarks come as political parties prepare for the upcoming elections, with increased political maneuvering expected in 2026.
