Tunji-Ojo: Public Service Inefficiencies Hinder Growth

During a graduation ceremony for the fifth cohort of the Aig Public Leaders Program in Abuja, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, stated that Nigeria cannot overcome insecurity or achieve economic aspirations without addressing the inefficiencies in the public sector.

He delivered a keynote address titled "Transforming Africa's Public Sector for Economic Growth," highlighting that public service inefficiencies are a significant barrier to development. Tunji-Ojo noted that the public sector must be efficient to combat corruption and improve service delivery.

He also mentioned his experience in resolving a backlog of 204,000 passport applications within two weeks by detaching from the usual business culture. Furthermore, he discussed his role as chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), where he initiated significant changes after years of inefficiency.

The event underscored the importance of visionary leadership in public institutions for Africa's future.
