Niger Governor Bago Addresses Minna Water Shortage Crisis

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has appealed to residents, particularly in Minna metropolis, to remain patient as the state addresses ongoing water shortages. During a briefing with journalists at the Government House in Minna, Bago highlighted that the water scarcity is compounded by issues such as electricity supply and insecurity.

He attributed the water challenges to decades of neglect of infrastructure, noting that many pipelines are 30 to 40 years old and broken. The governor announced that the government has commenced steps toward a holistic overhaul of the water infrastructure, which includes desilting the Tagwai Dam, replacing old pipelines, and revamping the distribution network in Minna.

Additionally, the state plans to expand the reservoir and improve the water articulation system to ensure better access to potable water. In the interim, water tankers will be deployed to distribute water to affected communities.

Bago also urged citizens to consider alternative power sources, as the state government has migrated critical public institutions to ensure uninterrupted services.
