MOFI to Launch Inaugural Excellence Awards to Promote Corporate Governance in Nigeria

MOFI, a Nigerian financial institution, is set to introduce the MOFI Excellence Awards in the second quarter of 2026 to foster a culture of good corporate governance within government-owned enterprises. The awards aim to recognize outstanding corporate governance performance across federal government-owned enterprises.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu's economic reform agenda. The MOFI Corporate Governance Scorecard, launched in April 2025, serves as the foundation for evaluating management teams against global standards.

Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Economy, will lead the assessment of portfolio companies based on stringent criteria, including regulatory compliance and sector impact. The awards seek to reward entities that demonstrate exceptional governance discipline and reinforce the importance of good governance in public enterprises.

Dr. Armstrong Takang described the awards as a groundbreaking initiative in Nigeria dedicated to acknowledging excellence in corporate governance.
