Ladoja Advocates Legal Framework Against Land Grabbing

On Thursday, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, called for legal support to effectively combat land grabbing in Ibadan. He received a report from Niyi Akintola, who heads the Anti-Land Grab Committee, at the Olubadan Palace.

The proposed legal framework includes passing a bylaw through local government councils in accordance with the Land Use Act, which would facilitate the creation of a special tribunal for expedited hearings on land grabbing cases. This tribunal would impose specific sanctions on individuals suspected of land grabbing, ensuring thorough investigations into land matters.

Ladoja also referenced a 1912 Supreme Court judgment concerning land ownership in the Oluyole local government area, asserting that claims based on this judgment are invalid. He highlighted the public interest in addressing these issues, as some individuals in Ibadan have been selling off others' land, leading to threats against those who oppose such actions.
