Olubadan Proposes Legal Framework Against Land Grabbing

On October 15, 2025, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, received the report from the Land Grab Committee, which he proposed should have legal backing to curb land grabbing in the city. The committee, chaired by Niyi Akintola, was inaugurated to address land grabbing issues from a legal perspective and includes members such as Musibau Adetunbi, Yinka Okunad, Rahman Abdulraheem, and Tunji Thomas.

The proposed legal framework involves passing a by-law through local government councils in accordance with the Land Use Act, which would create a special tribunal for expedited hearings on land disputes in Ibadan. The committee received 179 memoranda and highlighted the extensive network of land grabbers connected to various government organs.

Olubadan emphasized the need for drastic action against implicated chiefs and promised to support the committee's efforts in tackling this pressing issue affecting the investment climate in Ibadan.
