Ondo Monarch Remanded for Alleged Land Grabbing
Oba David Okunato, a traditional ruler in the Akur North Council Area of Ondo State, has been remanded in custody following his arraignment in court over allegations of land grabbing. He is accused of selling 750 plots of land to a company for development purposes and subsequently reselling parts of the property to various buyers, which has led to disputes over ownership.
The issues reportedly began when the company returned to develop the land and discovered that several individuals were already claiming ownership of parts of it. Allegations surfaced that the monarch made fresh allocations of land, further complicating the situation.
The court has ordered his remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akur, pending the fulfillment of bail conditions set at two million naira (₦2,000,000) on surety recognizance from a traditional ruler within the Akur Magisterial District. The Attorney General and Chair of the Anti-Land Grab Task Force, Dr.
Olukayode Ajulo, stated that the government will continue to clamp down on land grabbers to restore confidence in land transactions in Ondo State.
