Atiku Abubakar Challenges Tinubu Over Petrol Subsidy Issues

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has called for an investigation into allegations linking him to a $16bn power expenditure during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration. He challenged the Federal Government to prosecute him if evidence exists.

Atiku accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of reviving old allegations to distract from pressing issues regarding the use of revenues generated from the removal of the petrol subsidy. He highlighted the increased costs of petrol, transportation, and food that Nigerians have faced since the subsidy was lifted and demanded greater accountability for the resources generated since that time.

In response, the Presidency criticized Atiku's stance on the subsidy, pointing out his contradictory proposals regarding the potential restoration of the subsidy if he were elected in 2027.
