Police and Peace Committee Address 2027 Election Tensions

The Nigeria Police Force and the National Peace Committee, under the leadership of General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), are intensifying efforts to mitigate escalating political tensions and inciting comments as the 2027 general elections approach. The police are investigating controversial remarks from various political figures, including threats from a Borno commissioner, a Kuje Area Council chairman, and an Osun senator.

The National Peace Committee has established a situation room and an Electoral Offences Tracking System to monitor violations of the political accord. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress has condemned the recent petrol price increase by the Dangote Refinery, which rose from N1,200 to N1,265 per litre, marking the third adjustment in eight days.

Acting General Secretary Benson Upah stated that the hike was avoidable, citing falling international oil prices and Nigeria's refining capacity. The congress is demanding increased domestic crude supply to local refineries.

Additionally, gunmen attacked Rogo Local Government Area in Kano State, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the abduction of APC local government chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka.
