Mother Testifies Against Son in Kano Murder Trial

Rukayya Yakubu testified against her son, Umar Awwalu, who is on trial for the murder of Fatima Abubakar and her six children. The trial is taking place at the Kano State High Court No. 11, presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu.

Awwalu faces three charges, including conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide, related to the brutal killing of Abubakar, who was reportedly stabbed and set ablaze in November 2025. During her testimony, Rukayya Yakubu claimed that Awwalu had previously offered to convey the deceased to her residence, but she later discovered that the victim owed him money.

The defense counsel, Tunkuyau, cross-examined her. The case has been adjourned to May 15 for continued hearings.

Umar Awwalu was arrested on January 17 and is identified as the prime suspect in the case.
