Kano Court Arraigns Suspects in Family Murder Case

In Kano, a court has arraigned four suspects—Umar Auwalu, Yakubu Dayyabu, Isyaka Yakubu, and Umar Ali—accused of killing seven family members. They face multiple charges, including homicide, rape, armed robbery, and arson.

During the proceedings, the first defendant, Umar Auwalu, admitted to the charges; however, the court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf due to legal provisions governing capital offenses. Lead prosecutor Saleh Muhammad assured the state is prepared to present evidence and call witnesses to substantiate the charges.

The session was attended by Salisu Muhammad Tahir, the solicitor general and permanent secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Justice. The charges are divided into three separate cases (K 54, K 55, K 56), with the court adjourning the matter to April 22, 27, and 28 for continued hearings and witness presentations.
