El-Rufai Returns Home After Mother's Death Amid Controversy

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai returned to his Abuja residence after the passing of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died on Friday in Cairo after a period of illness. His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the news and expressed gratitude for the support received during this difficult time.

El-Rufai had been in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) since February 18 due to allegations of financial misconduct. He faces separate charges related to his time in the state service and allegations of phone tapping involving national security.

His release has been scheduled without a court order, which has led to criticism of the federal government. Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi visited El-Rufai's home to offer his condolences and noted the controversy surrounding El-Rufai's release from ICPC custody.
