Motsepe Addresses Corruption Claims Over AFCON Title

Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), addressed corruption allegations related to the controversial decision to strip Senegal of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, which was awarded to Morocco. This decision followed Senegal's 1-0 victory over Morocco in the final held on January 18 in Rabat.

CAF later awarded Morocco a 3-0 win, citing that Senegalese players and their head coach, Pape Thiaw, walked off the pitch after a late penalty was awarded to Morocco. Motsepe rejected the accusations of corruption, stating that CAF has nothing to hide and remains open to legal scrutiny from anyone wishing to initiate legal action.

He emphasized the organization's respect for judicial authority and sovereignty among its 54 member nations. The controversy escalated as Senegal's government called for an international investigation into the alleged corruption within CAF, following Senegal's decision to file an appeal against the ruling.
