Journalists Trained in Solution Reporting in Edo State

Journalists were encouraged to deepen their skills in solution reporting at a training organized by MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices and Nigeria Health Watch in collaboration with the Edo State Government. The four-day capacity-building program, held in Benin City, aimed to strengthen evidence-based reporting and rebuild public confidence in the media.

Dr. Cyril Adams-Oshiomhole, the Edo State Commissioner for Health, opened the training, stating that journalism should not only identify problems but also examine interventions that yield positive results. He highlighted the critical role of responsible reporting in improving public health outcomes and noted that accurate information can influence public behavior during health emergencies.

Dr. Adams-Oshiomhole commended MSI Nigeria and Nigeria Health Watch for their investment in journalists' professional development, asserting that effective communication and public trust are essential for improved healthcare delivery. Mrs. Omeche, the regional manager for the South-South and South-West at MSI Nigeria, emphasized the need to sustain discussions around Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and family planning.
