MUSLIM RIGHTS GROUP ALLEGES BIAS IN AIRPORT CHAPEL PROJECT

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), led by Executive Director Ishaq Akintola, has raised concerns over perceived religious bias in the federal government's plan to construct a N25 billion ecumenical chapel at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. In a statement issued on Friday, the organization criticized the project, which reportedly coincides with the Christian Association of Nigeria's involvement, claiming it reflects uneven treatment of religious groups in Nigeria.

They highlighted a disparity in relief fund distribution, noting that N2 billion was allocated to victims of violence in Plateau State, while similar interventions were not made for states like Borno, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kwara. Furthermore, they questioned the allocation of N1.2 billion shared among 19 northern states ahead of the Eid al-Kabir celebration, deeming it disproportionate compared to Plateau's funding.

The organization urged the federal government to clarify its plans for Muslim religious infrastructure and ensure equitable treatment of all religious groups.
