MUIC Calls for 100% Crude Supply to Dangote Refinery

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), led by Executive Director Ishaq Akintola, has urged the Nigerian government to ensure a 100% crude oil supply to the Dangote Refinery. This call follows the federal government's recent suspension of petrol imports, which was praised by the group as a significant step towards boosting local production and energy self-sufficiency in Nigeria.

Akintola highlighted that the Dangote Refinery currently operates with only 32% of the crude oil it requires, which is 650,000 barrels per day. He requested President Bola Tinubu to issue an executive order to facilitate the full supply of crude oil to local refineries, emphasizing that reliance on middlemen for the remaining 72% could lead to unnecessary costs.

Additionally, Said Mohammed, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), warned against reverting to heavy petrol imports, confirming that Nigeria has not issued any petrol import licenses this year as part of efforts to strengthen domestic refining capacity.
