DSS Urged to Release Walida Abdulhadi by Human Rights Group

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately release Walida Abdulhadi, a minor currently in their custody in Abuja, in compliance with a court order issued on January 7, 2026. The group, represented by Kano State Chairman Malam Hassan Sani Indabawa, expressed concern over the DSS's failure to enforce the court's directive, despite ongoing reforms under DSS Director General Oluwatosin Ajayi, who has been commended for promoting accountability and human rights.

The group also urged police authorities to arrest and prosecute Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, the alleged abductor, as per the court's instructions. The Jigawa State government has assured residents that it is actively addressing the case involving Walida Abdulhadi, with Governor Umar Namadi initiating high-level consultations to ensure a fair and transparent process.

The administration is aware of the emotional significance of the case and has urged the public to remain calm as due process continues.
