Muslim Groups Demand Justice in Walida's Case Against DSS

A coalition of Muslim groups, including the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) and the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), has publicly rejected the Department of State Services' (DSS) account regarding the case of Walida. The DSS claimed that Walida, who is currently 22 years old, was underage when she left her home in Hadejia, Jigawa State, in 2023.

Walida's father stated she was 16 at the time of her disappearance. However, Walida disputes this claim, asserting she is not a minor and that she was not abducted or forcibly converted to Christianity.

The coalition emphasizes the need for an independent investigation into the matter, citing broader issues of justice and human rights. They expressed concern over Walida's safety and the distress caused to her family.

The coalition has called for the DSS to comply with court orders and ensure a transparent investigation, while also highlighting the emotional toll on Walida's family over the past two years.
