Museveni Sworn in for Seventh Term as Uganda's President

Yoweri Museveni was sworn in as Uganda's president for his seventh term on January 26, 2021, at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala. He won the election with 71.65% of the votes, according to Uganda's Electoral Commission, while opposition leader Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, received 24.72%.

The election was marred by a nationwide internet blackout and reports of intimidation and abduction of opposition members. Museveni has been in power since 1986, having changed the constitution twice to remove term limits.

He is one of Africa's longest-serving leaders, alongside others like Denis Sassou Nguesso and Teodoro Obiang. The inauguration ceremony was attended by leaders from various African nations, including Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan and South Sudan's Salva Kiir.

Analysts speculate on when Museveni might retire, as he continues to lead a country with a young population that has known no other president.
