Osun Monarch Warns Politicians Over Rising Killings

Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, the monarch of Ijesaland, issued a stern warning to politicians regarding the rising trend of politically motivated killings in the region. Speaking during the induction ceremony at the maiden Obokungbusi Hall of Fame on Tuesday, he expressed outrage over the recent killings of three Ijesa men within a single month, which he linked to the upcoming elections in August.

He described the situation as a descent into lawlessness, stating that his people should not be treated like "chickens" and warned that any politician found responsible for these killings would face severe consequences, including potential banishment. The monarch urged religious leaders across churches, mosques, and shrines to actively preach against political violence.

This warning comes amid a backdrop of increasing violence in Ijesaland, particularly in Ilesa, which has recorded the highest number of fatal incidents. The Osun State Police Command has arrested five suspects linked to cult-related violence in the area.
