Makinde: Successor Must Prioritize Oyo People Over Loyalty

During the 12th edition of the Omituntun Annual Ramadan Public Lecture held at the Agodi Gate motor park in Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that his successor, who will emerge in 2027, must be selected based on competence and loyalty to the people of Oyo rather than personal allegiance to him. Makinde expressed his desire to break away from the traditional pattern of political succession, where successors are often chosen based on personal connections.

He urged that the next governor should be someone who prioritizes the welfare of the state and its citizens, stating, "I don’t want to go back to a time when political violence was rampant." Makinde's remarks reflect his commitment to ensuring a peaceful political transition and maintaining stability in Oyo State.
