Niger Delta Youth Leaders Challenge Chevron's Policies

Niger Delta youth leaders have called on Chevron Nigeria Limited to review the appointment of a foreign national to a procurement management position, which was previously held by a Nigerian, despite the availability of qualified Nigerian professionals. The spokesperson, Comrade Faith Gere, expressed concerns that this appointment contradicts the objectives of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, aimed at promoting local participation and creating job opportunities for Nigerians.

The group also opposed Chevron's proposed shift from Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) to Free Carrier (FCA) procurement terms, arguing it could disadvantage Nigerian manufacturers and suppliers. They emphasized that many indigenous companies have invested in local manufacturing for critical oil and gas equipment.

The youth leaders urged Chevron to engage with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and other stakeholders before implementing policies that could affect local content development. They reaffirmed their commitment to constructive engagement to protect Nigerian jobs and investments.
