Sokoto State Probe Panel Uncovers N117bn Misappropriation Under Former Governor Tambuwal

A probe panel in Sokoto State, Nigeria, has disclosed that N117 billion was allegedly misappropriated during the tenure of former Governor Aminu Tambuwal. The report was presented by Justice Mu'azu Abdulkadir Pindiga, who led the commission of inquiry established in July 2023 to investigate land allocations and asset sales during Tambuwal's administration.

The commission reviewed financial records, examined relevant documents, received public memoranda, and heard testimonies from individuals and institutions connected to the period under review. Governor Ahm Aliyu commended the thorough and transparent exercise conducted by the commission, emphasizing the importance of upholding justice and transparency in managing public resources.

Despite several adjournments, Tambuwal failed to appear before the commission to testify. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) dismissed the report as an attempt to tarnish the image of its leaders.

However, civil society groups welcomed the probe and called for accountability in past administrations to enhance transparency in governance.
