Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu on Fuel Price Hike

Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration for the rising domestic fuel prices, which have reached ₦1,470 per litre. He accused the government of failing to account for revenues, deductions, and savings following the removal of the petrol subsidy.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the situation as an “organised system of grand larceny” involving opaque Federation Account deductions and alleged off-book transactions. He emphasized that the increase in petrol prices directly affects the cost of living for Nigerians and called for a comprehensive reconciliation of Federation Account revenues from 2023 to date.

Atiku cited figures showing gross revenue of N4.232 trillion in June 2025, with only N1.818 trillion distributed. He demanded transparency regarding the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund and other oil revenue transactions, insisting that these allegations should be independently scrutinized rather than dismissed politically.

He also rejected the notion that international oil market fluctuations were responsible for the rising domestic petrol costs.
