Lamido and Sons Re-Arraigned for N1.35bn Fraud Case

Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa State, along with his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha Lamido, is scheduled for re-arraignment on April 1 in a case involving alleged money laundering of N1.35 billion. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed 27 counts against them, claiming the funds were kickbacks from state government contracts during Lamido's tenure as governor from 2007 to 2015.

The trial has faced multiple legal challenges, including a no-case submission that was dismissed by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu in November 2022. Following an appeal, the Court of Appeal upheld the dismissal, but the Supreme Court later set aside this judgment on January 16, 2026, restoring the charges against Lamido and his co-defendants.

The case is now set to continue in the Federal High Court, with Justice Peter Lifu presiding over the proceedings.
