Over 1.4 Million Nigerians Receive Free Reading Glasses Under Jigi Bola 2.0 Health Initiative

Dr. Adekunle Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, announced that 1.4 million Nigerians received free reading glasses within a year under the Federal Government's Jigi Bola 2.0 initiative.

The program, implemented in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative, aims to deliver five million free pairs of eyeglasses to needy Nigerians. The initiative has screened over 1.5 million Nigerians aged 40 and above for presbyopia across 16 states.

Notably, the program has recorded a 94% utilization rate, with 65% of beneficiaries receiving their first-ever pair of glasses. The initiative also aims to close the gender gap in access to eyecare, with 53% of recipients being women.

Plans are underway to expand the program to additional states and establish new vision centers to reach more Nigerians in need.
