Former Banker Jailed for N2.7 Billion Fraud Scheme

Christopher Jackson Edeh, a former banker at Fidelity Bank Plc, was convicted by the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja for fraudulently altering bank account details associated with NNPC Trading Limited, Lagos and Kano state governments, and other entities in a N2.7 billion fraud case. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the conviction on October 27, 2026.
Edeh was first arraigned on February 28, 2024, facing nine charges of fraudulent false accounting and illegal access to a computer system. He was found guilty of manipulating banking records with the intent to commit fraud.
The judge sentenced him to five years' imprisonment on each of the first seven counts, totaling 39 years, but ordered the sentences to run concurrently, resulting in a maximum of five years. The case traces back to September 2023, when Edeh was accused of unauthorized access to the bank's computer system.
He denied the charges, prompting the prosecution to proceed with the case.
