Fani-Kayode Defends NADECO Against Obi's Remarks

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, expressed his pain over Peter Obi's comments regarding the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), stating that such remarks will not go unanswered. Fani-Kayode accused Obi of attempting to undermine NADECO's significant role in Nigeria's pro-democracy struggle, particularly during the military regime of late head of state Sani Abacha, which included imprisonment and exile for many activists.

He alleged that Obi had previously supported the Abacha regime. Fani-Kayode also criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a defunct and unrecognized platform, targeting its chairman, David Mark, in connection with the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by MKO Abiola.

He expressed disappointment at former NADECO figures, including Dele Momodu and Rauf Aregbesola, for aligning with individuals he believes are undermining the legacy of the pro-democracy movement. Fani-Kayode concluded that the sacrifices made by NADECO members in the fight against military rule should not be disregarded.
