The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced an investigation into civilian casualties resulting from an airstrike conducted on April 11, 2026, in Jilli Village, located along the border of Borno and Yobe states. The airstrike reportedly struck a local market, leading to fears that approximately 30 people were killed. The Director of Public Relations for NAF, Ehimen Ejodam, emphasized the seriousness of the report regarding possible civilian harm and reiterated the NAF's commitment to protecting innocent lives during operations. Chief of Air Staff directed the immediate activation of a civilian harm accident investigation cell to locate and ascertain the facts of the incident. Local councillor Lawan Zannah confirmed the casualty figures, while Abdulsalam Dahiru, a special adviser on security matters to the Yobe State Governor, also verified the incident. The NAF urged the public and media to refrain from speculation as the investigation is ongoing, highlighting the importance of safeguarding national security and addressing credible concerns.
