NAFDAC Launches Campaign to Promote Food Label Awareness

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) officially launched the "Read the Food Label" campaign in Abuja, led by Director General Dr. Prof.

Mojisola Adeyeye. The campaign aims to empower consumers by enhancing their understanding of food labels, which are crucial for making informed food choices.

Dr. Adeyeye emphasized the importance of food labels as public health tools, particularly in the context of Nigeria's increasing rates of non-communicable diseases, which account for approximately 29% of deaths in the country.

The campaign seeks to promote a culture of reading food labels, reduce salt intake, and encourage healthier dietary habits. It is supported by various stakeholders, including the World Health Organization and CAPPA, and aims to create a healthier food environment in Nigeria.

The initiative also calls for collaboration among government institutions, healthcare professionals, and civil society to amplify the importance of food label literacy.
