NAFDAC Investigates NYSC Member's Death in Enugu Camp

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated an investigation into the death of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member at the orientation camp in Awgu, Enugu State. Initial allegations claimed the death was due to substandard and falsified medicines.
However, NAFDAC's preliminary investigations indicate that the cause of death may have been complications from severe dehydration and shock. In a statement signed by Director-General Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, NAFDAC detailed the events leading to the death.
The corps member was admitted to the camp clinic on Wednesday, 7th October, presenting severe malaria symptoms. After treatment, he returned on Saturday, 10th October, with critical hypotension and was referred to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), where he lapsed into a coma and died.
NAFDAC noted that the same medications administered to the deceased were used successfully on other corps members.
