NAFDAC Seals 18 Warehouses, Seizes N100m Expired Food

On Thursday, NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control) conducted an enforcement operation in Bida, Niger State, sealing 18 warehouses and seizing expired food and beverage products valued at N100 million. The operation, led by NAFDAC's enforcement director Sayo Akintola, targeted warehouses located around Ndazabo, White House, along Minna Road, and behind Bida Modern Market, following credible intelligence regarding illegal storage and distribution of expired consumables.

The agency recovered approximately 80,000 packets of expired non-alcoholic beverages, 5,000 packets of expired dairy milk, 16,000 packets of bottled water, and 28 cartons of pasta, among other assorted expired food items. Additionally, several warehouse managers were arrested and interrogated as part of the preliminary investigation, which linked the facilities to identified companies.

The operation also extended to two supermarkets in Minna, where counterfeit vegetable oil products were allegedly recovered. The managing director of one company, Yusuf Nadabo, was invited for questioning and reportedly admitted ownership of the expired goods.

NAFDAC's investigation is ongoing, with appropriate regulatory sanctions expected to be imposed.
