NAFDAC Urges Nigerians to Read Food Labels for Health

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated a campaign encouraging Nigerians to read food labels prior to buying packaged foods. This campaign was launched on a Friday in Abuja by NAFDAC's Director General, Prof.
Mojisola Adeyeye. She emphasized that food labels contain essential information regarding nutritional value and product safety, which consumers should carefully examine to make informed choices.
Prof. Adeyeye pointed out that the rising consumption of foods high in sugar, salt, saturated fat, and trans fat is contributing to the increasing prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases in Nigeria.
The campaign is organized in partnership with development partners to enhance nutritional literacy among consumers, equipping them with the knowledge necessary to make informed food choices. Prof.
Adeyeye stressed the importance of making reading food labels a routine practice for all consumers to help reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases in the country.
