ADC Warns Against Government Interference in Judiciary

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a warning on Thursday against governmental interference in judicial matters, specifically concerning the ongoing case involving Nafiu Bala. The party accused the federal government of attempting to pressure Justice Nwite to recuse himself from the case, which they view as a disturbing plot to manipulate the judiciary.

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's spokesperson, stated that this interference poses a direct threat to judicial integrity and democracy in Nigeria. The ADC highlighted that despite the Supreme Court judgment not being formally released, there is an unusual urgency to remove Justice Nwite from the case.

They called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Chief Justice of Nigeria to intervene urgently to prevent further erosion of judicial independence. The ADC emphasized that any attempt to intimidate judges or influence judicial assignments undermines the constitution and the democratic process in Nigeria.
