NAHCON Launches Hajj Companion App for Pilgrim Safety

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has introduced the Hajj Companion App to improve the safety and logistics for Nigerian pilgrims participating in Hajj. This digital innovation aims to address challenges faced during previous pilgrimages, notably the tragic events of 2015 in Mina, where 274 Nigerians lost their lives.

The app integrates GPS coordination to help pilgrims locate their assigned tents and accommodations in Mina and Madinah, significantly reducing the risk of individuals becoming lost. It is designed with features to support the elderly and those from rural backgrounds, offering multilingual guidance and real-time alerts.

Additionally, NAHCON has partnered with Jaiz Bank to ensure financial transparency and security for pilgrims, allowing for early registration and premium accommodation bookings. The app also provides oversight on exchange rates to protect against fraud.

This initiative marks a significant shift towards a data-driven approach in managing the complexities of Hajj logistics for Nigerian pilgrims.
