NAMA Addresses Delay in Mobile Control Tower Deployment

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has provided an explanation for the delay in the deployment of a mobile control tower at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after a fire incident damaged the terminal. NAMA's spokesman, Dr.

Abdullahi Musa, stated that the agency is prioritizing safety and compliance with engineering standards, which are critical in the deployment of aviation infrastructure. The agency has initiated contingency measures to ensure uninterrupted air navigation services while arrangements for the mobile tower are being made.

The chosen location for the mobile tower requires excavation and a stable foundation to support the structure, which cannot be rushed. NAMA noted that the installation process must adhere to strict engineering standards to avoid compromising safety.

The contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), has advised that installation should not proceed until the foundation has fully settled to prevent structural damage. Meanwhile, air traffic control services at the airport remain operational through interim arrangements.
