NANS Cancels Nationwide Protest Over New Tax Law After Engagements with Government

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called off its planned nationwide protest against the new tax reform act following engagements with government bodies like the Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) and the Department of State Services (DSS). The protest, initially scheduled for January 14, 2026, sought to stop the law's implementation to allow for public sensitization and investigation.

NANS clarified that the tax reform act is not aimed at the poor but intends to ensure equitable tax contributions across income groups. The association received support from the federal government and praised President Bola Tinubu for student-friendly policies.

The decision was made during the National Executive Council (ENEC) meeting, drawing participation from student bodies nationwide.
