NANS Condemns Killing of UNIJOS Student Abel Gershon

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) condemned the killing of Abel Gershon, a 300-level student at the University of Jos, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a deadly attack on March 29, 2026. The attack occurred at a popular relaxation spot in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where bandits opened fire, resulting in 28 fatalities and numerous injuries, including other students.

Ridwan Ajayi, chairman of the NANS Lagos State Joint Campus Council, expressed outrage over Gershon's death and called for a presidential investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The statement highlighted the deteriorating security situation in the country and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish a presidential panel to identify the perpetrators and ensure justice.

The NANS Lagos JCC also commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for facilitating the safe evacuation of students affected by the attack, emphasizing the need for urgent action to protect students in their learning environments.
