UNIJOS Confirms Deaths of Two Students in Plateau Attacks

On April 5, 2023, the University of Jos (UNIJOS) confirmed that two of its students were killed and three others injured during attacks by unknown gunmen in Plateau State. The Vice Chancellor, Prof.

Tanko Ishaya, disclosed this information during a press briefing, identifying the deceased as Abel Joro Gershon, a 300-level student, who was shot in the stomach during the Angwan Rukuba attack. Another victim, Adeyomo Oluwafemi Temitop, a 500-level student, was shot dead on April 1 outside the campus along Bauchi Road.

Prof. Ishaya expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and noted that the university community, which includes four students and one staff member, was significantly affected by the violence that reportedly claimed 30 lives.

Normal academic activities resumed on Tuesday across the university's campus, with enhanced security measures in place. The Vice Chancellor commended the response of security agencies and assured that the university remains a priority for security management.

He also announced that examinations would continue on April 13, allowing students to travel safely during the Easter break.
