University of Jos VC Confirms Loss of Two Students

During a press briefing held at the Senate Building of the University of Jos, Vice Chancellor Professor Ishaya Tanko reported the tragic loss of two students, Abel Joro Gershon and Adeyomo Oluwafemi Temitop, due to violent attacks in Jos. The incidents occurred on March 29, 2026, and April 1, 2026, respectively.

Gershon, a 300-level student, was shot in the stomach and later succumbed to his injuries on April 5, 2026. Temitop, also a 300-level student, sustained gunshot injuries to his leg and is currently receiving treatment.

Additionally, Daniel Duguryil Ufiala, a staff member, was shot in the thigh and is undergoing treatment. The violence, which included an attack on Longji Molshap Wumnokol, a 300-level geology student, has left the university community deeply saddened.

Professor Tanko emphasized the need for strong support from the local community to ensure safety on campus.
